Zum Tod von George A. Romero hier einfach mal kommentarlos sein erster Horrorfilm Night of the Living Dead / Die Nacht der lebenden Toten (1968). Ein absoluter Meilenstein des modernen Horrorfilms und natürlich des kompletten Zombie Subgenres. Sein erster Horrorfilm Die Nacht der lebenden Toten (1968) – noch mit einem sehr geringen Budget von 114.000 Dollar gedreht – traf mit seiner hintergründigen Aussage gegen Rassismus und den Vietnamkrieg genau den Nerv der Zeit und wurde schnell zum Geheimtipp. Der kontroverse Film wurde zudem in die Sammlung des New Yorker Museum of Modern Art aufgenommen. Warum der Film prinzipiell seit seiner Veröffentlichung Public Domain ist kann hier nachgelesen werden. Mehr dazu hier: Why Night of the Living Dead is Public Domain Der Titel des Filmes war bis kurz vor der Veröffentlichung Night of the Flesh Eaters. Es gab allerdings bereits einen Film mit dem gleichen Titel. Nach Drohungen der Produzenten dieses Films wurde der Titel in Night of the Living Dead geändert. Dazu musste der erste Filmverleih des Films, die Walter Reade Organization, den Titel austauschen. Beim Austauschen vergaß Reade allerdings einen Urheberrechts-Hinweis miteinzublenden, der in der originalen Titelsequenz noch enthalten war.
