Russel Houghten’s Kurzfilm wurde bereits 2014 gedreht und zeigt Skateboarder in einem utopischen, von Menschen verlassenen Los Angeles. Das Ganze hat in Zeiten von COVID-19 durch die eindrucksvollen Bilder eine unheimliche Faszination. With quarantines and „shelter-in-place“ becoming the new normal, leave it to skateboarders to find the silver lining in this situation. Russell Houghten’s winning film entry for our 2014 REDirect project imagined a bizarro Los Angeles where traffic and pedestrians were non-existent; his eerily prescient ‚Urban Isolation‘ is a must-watch while you are cooped up this week. Glowing City // Photography by Slava Semeiuta

Die Serie „Glowing City“ des russischen Künstlers, Fotografen und DJ Slava Semeiuta entstand in Sochi und ist wie viele seiner anderen Arbeiten inspiriert von Surrealismus und Science Fiction (und verdammt viel Neon ;)). I love everything that looks cosmic. Now I often use body painting and Digital Art. I photograph my models turning them into cosmic creatures. I am inspired by music genres: AMBIENT, IDM, TECHNO, AFRICAN RHYTHMS. In my opinion all the most beautiful and really valuable things are right before our eyes from the very childhood, and probably for this reason we stop to notice it when we grow up. Seeing the splendor in things that other people call dull or even unpleasant is a very controversial gift, but at the same time wonderful. Tom Ryaboi war anscheinend schon immer jemand der Höhen liebt, wie er auf seiner Website erzählt: My father often likes to tell a story about me when I was 2 years old, although I was too young to remember the incident I believe it to be true. He says he returned home from work one day to find my mother doing some house work but I was nowhere to be found. He looked in my room, he looked in the living room, even in the kitchen. His worries were silenced when finally I called out to him from the top of the fridge. He says he is still trying to figure out how I got there. Navigation Unknown // Art by John Wentz

Navigation Unknown ist eine Serie des zeitgenössischen Malers John Wentz. Inspiriert von seinem Aufenthalt in New York ist das Werk eine direkte Antwort auf die materiellen Strukturen der Stadt. Dabei benutzte er Collagen aus Werbung, Sprayfarbe und anderen Medien um die Gemälde mit ihrem Ursprung zu verschmelzen. “Navigation Unknown” offers a dynamic observation of the passerby by focusing on the encounters of individuals converging in spaces of transience. The exhibition is twofold, featuring micro and macro perspectives. Dynamic narrative scenes are paired with stripped down portraits of individual passengers. Each piece employs the viewer’s own projection onto the subjects, allowing an emotive recognition to exude from the figures. I think it’s a really vulnerable state to be in when you’re neither here nor there, so to speak. People in transit are unrooted… We are in a constant flux going from point A to point B. I’m interested in the area between those two points.

Der kroatische Street Artist Lonac bereist die Welt und bereichert sie dabei mit seinen Wandmalereien. VICES ist sein neuester Output welcher im Rahmen des Arte Publica Projekts in Leiria / Portugal entstand (Process photos by silkfatblues). Die Serie „People Matching Artworks“ des Wieners Stefan Draschan zeigt Museumsbesucher, deren Kleidung eine perfekte Symbiose mit der beobachteten Kunst bilden. Da man für ein solches Foto-Projekt offensichtlich eine Menge Zeit und Geduld mitbringen muss, konnte Stefan mit dem geschossenen Material auch weitere Serien wie „People Sleeping in Museums“ oder „People Touching Artworks“ erstellen.

Rich McCor aka paperboyo treibt auf Instagram mit seinen Papierschnitten schon länger sein Unwesen und ist dort inzwischen zu einem regelrechten Phänomen geworden. Aktuell folgen seinem kreativen Werk, in dem er Papierschnitte mit echten Objekten vermischt, auf Instagram über 320.000 Leute. Die Serie „The Traveller“ des Berliner Fotografen Maximilian Motel verbindet die Panoramas einer Reise nach Havana/Cuba mit einem Astronauten, welchen er in einem Studio in Berlin aufgenommen hat. This project combines background plates shot in Havana, Cuba and the space suit shot in studio in Berlin, Germany.
