Artist statement – Sarah Seené My photographic work is mainly around the notion of “I“. More than that, its viscerally full of it. This concern of the “I“ is always brought by the way I stage myself. Nowadays, with the importance of the social image and the selfie, where the narcissism predominates, the selfportrait is questionning itself. Throughout solitary walks, consisting of exploring streets, fields, forests and abandonned houses with either my instant camera or 35mm camera, I’m looking for a place to stage myself. I’m […]
Come & see things differently with me.
This project combines background plates shot in Havana, Cuba and the space suit shot in studio in Berlin, Germany. Special thanks to Mo-Postproduction for the cooperation, Philipp Pohl & Sebastian Sellner for assisting and my Dad for standing in.
Er schreibt dazu in seinem Tumblr Blog: Far from the Miami of Will Smith, retired Jews and Cocaine Cowboys, I wanted to show the city where we spent more time in the shade of its hood looking for a parking spot than under the Florida sunshine, cocktail in hand.
One of my first commissions in Pittsburgh was to photograph the parking lots in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. On a chilly late December afternoon, as the turquoise sky surrendered to the city lights, I was struck by the isolation of a parking lot attendant sitting in his booth. Through the booth’s weathered Plexiglas I sensed his melancholy, alone with nothing other than his thoughts to keep him company. Like this man I am often alone and isolated; I felt a connection to him. Pittsburgh is a commuter city with marginal public transportation, so most commuters drive into the city from Pittsburgh’s surrounding suburbs, and thus need a place to park. Around downtown Pittsburgh there are many parking lots, some large and corporate, others small and privately owned. Many are ground-level lots tended by a single attendant, who takes payment and organizes the comings and goings of […]
Reverie in nature takes form in the black and white of Hengki Koentjoro’s photographs. In his striking signature simplicity, Hengki delicately preserves the dreamy awe in ordinary objects above and under water. Now based in Jakarta, Hengki seeks soundness of mind mostly in the oceans and open nature—away from the buzzing city life. In their series of portraits, Robbie Postma (chef) and Robert Harrison (photographer) take the viewer back to the origin of a menu. Through visual imagination and culinary flair, they evoke every step of a fine dining experience, but rather than focusing of the final, finessed dishes, MENU makes the raw, unprocessed ingredients the heroes. Served on the closest place you can get to a chef’s mind: on his face. Hier das Behind the scenes zu der Fotoserie: MENU – The craft behind the project. from Tim Arnold on Vimeo.
