Die erste Single des neuen The National Albums „Sleep Well Beast“ (Veröffentlichung 08. Sept. 2017) mit dem sperrigen Titel „The System Only Dreams in Total Darkness“ ist draußen und ich freue mich schon die Band mal wieder live zu sehen. Die bevorstehende Tour macht in Deutschland leider nur in Hamburg (21.10., Elbphilharmonie) und Berlin (23+24.10., Tempodrom) halt. Mini people // Gemälde von Dawid Planeta – inkl. Interview

Der polnische Grafikdesigner Dawid Planeta verarbeitet mit seinen Illustrationen in „Mini people in the jungle“ seine eigenen Erfahrungen mit Depression und Angst. Ich habe ein kurzes Interview mit Dawid zu seiner Arbeit  geführt: Chris: Tell me a little bit about yourself. How and why did you start painting? Dawid: I started learning how to draw when I was in high school because I wanted to study architecture, but it didn’t work out so finally I studied graphic design and got all the artistic skills and superpowers there. Chris: What techniques do you use for your art? Is it only analog or do you use digital tools like Photoshop too? Dawid: I work mostly digital – I like to move a lot and work in different places. With computer I can work on pictures that are quite big any place I want. Chris: I’ve read you use your art in the „Mini people“ series to fight your own depression. Extrapolate // Animation by Johan Rijpma

In this hand drawn animation a line is being extrapolated through a grid. When the line surpasses the boundaries of the grid, the process spreads to and reflects on its surroundings. Beyond each boundary the extrapolation of movement is causing deformation in a systematic but speculative way. MENU // Ein Dinner durch die Augen eines Fotografen und Kochs

MENU ist eine expressionistische Fotoserie, die in Kollaboration mit dem Fotografen Robert Harrison und des Kochs Robbie Postma entstand. Die Fotoserie stellt dabei die unverarbeiteten Inhalte eines Menüs in den Fokus und serviert sie direkt in’s Gesicht. In their series of portraits, Robbie Postma (chef) and Robert Harrison (photographer) take the viewer back to the origin of a menu. Through visual imagination and culinary flair, they evoke every step of a fine dining experience, but rather than focusing of the final, finessed dishes, MENU makes the raw, unprocessed ingredients the heroes. Animista // CSS Animations on demand

Mit dem Browser-Tool Animista kann man mühelos CSS Animationen ausprobieren und mittels diverser Einstellungen anpassen. Sobald man mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden ist, lässt sich der benötigte Code dann einfach kopieren und für eigene Projekte verwenden. Die Erstellerin des Tools Ana Travas dazu: Animista is a place where you can play with a collection of pre-made CSS animations, tweak them and get only those you will actually use. Animista started out as a small side-project of mine. As I was increasingly using CSS animations, I thought it would come in handy to have them organised in a meaningful and accessible way so that they can be easily reused on different projects. The idea was to create a playground of a sorts where a collection of pre-made animations could be tested and tweaked before actually using them. Seeing how various options like easing, delay, duration and others affect the animation proved to be very useful. And basically that is how Animista was born.
