Die Serie „City“ des englischen Fotografen John MacLean würde ich am ehesten in die Kategorie „Street Photography“ einordnen. Viele Motive beinhalten eine gewisse urbane (Un)Ruhe, allerdings auch oft etwas obskur entrücktes. Auszug aus dem Text zum Projekt „City“: ‘City is a microcosm of calmness, but one empty of the qualities most easily celebrated,’ suggests MacLean, who liberates the everyday object from the ‘drudgery’ of its existence in his images, and in doing so, ‘Each questions its own history — how it came to reach this place. Here, the photograph can exalt a hosepipe into an object of affection or recast a tree into a flattened, synthetic structure. A machine registers as a nocturnal beacon of light, a collection of trophies seem to have waited their whole lives to come together. In City, the aesthetics of science are cherished in a world of geometries, energy, interference patterns and diffracted colour. Random motion distributes seedlings on a white car bonnet. A block of ice radiates before entropy erases its outline. Underground, neon light generates a deep glow of blue. Glowing City // Photography by Slava Semeiuta

Die Serie „Glowing City“ des russischen Künstlers, Fotografen und DJ Slava Semeiuta entstand in Sochi und ist wie viele seiner anderen Arbeiten inspiriert von Surrealismus und Science Fiction (und verdammt viel Neon ;)). I love everything that looks cosmic. Now I often use body painting and Digital Art. I photograph my models turning them into cosmic creatures. I am inspired by music genres: AMBIENT, IDM, TECHNO, AFRICAN RHYTHMS. In my opinion all the most beautiful and really valuable things are right before our eyes from the very childhood, and probably for this reason we stop to notice it when we grow up. Seeing the splendor in things that other people call dull or even unpleasant is a very controversial gift, but at the same time wonderful.
