Pünktlich zum 60. Geburtstag des ehemaligen R.E.M. Frontmans Michael Stipe am 04. Januar, gibt es die neue Single „Drive to the ocean“. Angeblich sind bereits 18 Solosongs fertig – freue mich also schon auf neues Material 8 Jahre nach der Auflösung von R.E.M. Das „Drive to the Ocean“ Bundle inklusive Musik, Video, Wallpapers etc. gibt’s übrigens auch ab 0,77 Dollar auf michaelstipe.com – alle Erlöse kommen dabei Pathway to Paris, einer Wohltätigkeitsorganisation gegen den Klimawandel, zugute.

Building Beautiful UIs ist ein kostenloser Online-Kurs von Christopher Murphy, der einem auf Basis von Adobe XD (gibt’s kostenlos als Download) die fundamentalen Prinzipien von User Interface Design näher bringt. Passend zur Lektüre gibt’s digitale Extras wie XD Dateien und UI Patterns oben drauf. Aktuell sind die ersten drei von insgesamt neun Kapiteln online: Designing Interfaces, The Building Blocks of Interfaces und Information Architecture.

Coole Wave Version des Chris Isaak Klassikers „Wicked Game“ von TWINS. The Brvtalist is proud to premiere a new video from TWINS. The creative alter ego of Atlanta-based artist Matt Weiner releases his rendition of Chris Isaak’s 1989 track which forgets the epic slide guitar, speeds it up by about 10 bpm, and gives a whole new wave vibe to the 80s classic. The song has been in our heads ever since the first listen and the DIY video is just as mesmerizing.  

Server Room // Short Movie by AB/CD/CD

Server Room ist ein dystopischer Kurzfilm von AB/CD/CD basierend auf Richard Brautigans Gedicht “All watched over by machines of loving grace”, 1967. Dystopia is no longer tomorrow. It is here, now and today. Entropy is real and will never stop. That’s how we understand R. Brautigan’s poem when we read it today. That’s what it means to us. He may have written it in a much more optimistic way in a much more optimistic time… Or was he being sarcastic? Today everything has changed, global warming scares us, the harmony between nature, animals and human beings is broken, we are scared of our place in the ecological environment, we are disorientated. We are hoping technology can solve our problems, but instead it takes us away from reality and no matter what, we can’t resist. In “Server Room”, we develop an enigmatic universe where an AI tries to recreate this balance between mammals and computers, but this attempt only produces distortion and monsters, each attempts to “watch over” goes wrong, we’re not sure if there is a happy end here.
